MARCH 21, 2024

BARACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA ACADEMY

Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Custer Ave Capacity Relief Multi-Benefit Project Public Meeting #1! Over 35 residents and stakeholders attended the event on March 21st held at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy and provided the team with valuable perspectives, input, and guidance on the project that will help shape the design and amenities of the greenspace for this project. Please see the meeting presentation and the results of the board activities below.

PUBLIC MEETING BOARDS RECAP

Please review the results of the Greenspace Design and Amenities boards from the Custer Ave Capacity Relief Multi-Benefit Project Public Meeting #1 . The results of these boards will help the project team to create design options for the new greenspace on the project site that will be shared out as preliminary options at the next public meeting. Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Custer Ave Capacity Relief Multi-Benefit Project Public Meeting #2! Over 30 residents and stakeholders attended the event on May 9th at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy. During the meeting, we presented the first three concept designs for the greenspace, providing the community with an opportunity to review and offer feedback. Your valuable perspectives and input will significantly influence the final design and greenspace amenities concept. SEPTEMBER 12, 2024

BARACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA ACADEMY

Department of Watershed Management hosted the third and final public meeting for phase I of the Custer Avenue Capacity Relief Multi-Benefit project on Thursday, September 12, at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meeting featured a brief presentation, followed by an open format where attendees could visit stations staffed by project team members to ask questions and receive updates on the project, including a virtual tour station of the final design concept for the park and amenities.  Also, project engineers and city staff were available to answer more in-depth questions regarding the storage vault.  There were approximately 30 people in attendance, including many residents who have attended all three meetings. Construction is anticipated to begin in the 1st half of 2025 and the completion of the storage vault will be 2nd quarter of 2027 with the greenspace/park near the end of 2027.

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2025

BARACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA ACADEMY

Department of Watershed Management hosted a fourth public meeting for the Custer Avenue Capacity Relief Multi-Benefit project on Tuesday, June 3rd, at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting was to provide transparency on the history and evolution of the project, as well as provide further clarity on the benefits and functionality of the stormwater storage vault. Residents of Peoplestown had the opportunity to present their findings, share their sentiments, and ask questions to the project team.  We concluded the meeting with breakout tables attended by the Department of Watershed Management, the project engineers, and planners to answer any further questions the public may have had.  The meeting was attended by approximately 60 community members.

INITIAL PROJECT PUBLIC OVERVIEW MEETING

SEPTEMBER 13, 2023

The initial project overview meeting with the community on September 13, 2023, served as a pivotal starting point for engaging residents and stakeholders in the project's development. During this meeting, the DWM introduced the project's initial goals, scope, and timeline, while also providing an opportunity for community members to share their concerns, priorities, and aspirations. The presentation requested by the community at the most recent Public Meeting on March 21, 2024 reflects the ongoing commitment to transparency and collaboration, ensuring that community voices are heard and their input continues to shape the project's evolution.
